Warden-Aided Apartments MRBHA has four sheltered housing schemes, Fox Grove Court, Lincoln Court, Spencer Court and William Olds Court, which each comprise a group of unfurnished apartments, specifically designed with the needs of elderly people in mind and have resident wardens living on site. Each sheltered housing scheme provides convenient and comfortable accommodation in a setting which allows tenants individual privacy and the facility to come and go as they please. At the same time they provide a degree of underlying security and encouragement to make friends by being able to share in a wider social life through use of the communal facilities and activities provided. All apartments are linked to the wardens by a two-way speech system. They are self-contained and are suitable for one or two persons. They comprise a living room, fitted kitchen, bedroom, bathroom or shower-room and toilet, entrance hall and storage cupboards. They have their own individual central heating, a TV point and telephone socket. The majority of the upper floor apartments in each complex are served by lifts. A rental is payable to the association and tenants are responsible for their own council tax, water, gas, electricity and telephone accounts, as appropriate. Social activities are encouraged and a variety of events and outings are organised for tenants by the wardens throughout the year. The association minibus is popular for outings and fortnightly shopping trips. Links between the schemes are fostered by friendly competitions, visits and sharing of activities. A tenant’s representative is elected onto each scheme committee which meets monthly. Full tenants’ meetings are held at each scheme with the board of management at least once a year.
